Dechristianization

  • November 1793: The Convention decreed the Cathedral of Notre Dame to be "a Temple of Reason"

  • October 1793: The convention proclaimed a new calendar dating from the first day of the French Revolution

  • After, the legislature sent trusted members to close churches and persecute clergy and believers of dechristianization
    • This religious policy caused an uproar and caused the separation of provinces from the revolutionary government in Paris.
